Bicyclists on Louisiana roadways are placed in danger of being involved in a car accident every time a negligent driver is on the road. If a motorist is not properly paying attention, especially at night, they are putting all other users of the road at risk.

This is exactly what happened to a 32-year-old bicyclist who was struck down and run over by a shuttle bus just outside of an airport. The bike rider suffered extensive injuries, including several broken pelvis bones. Even though this accident took place more than two years ago, the bicyclist still suffers from the injuries suffered in the crash including neck, back and pelvis pain.

The bicyclist filed a personal injury lawsuit against the shuttle bus company seeking to hold the company responsible for the negligence of their employee in causing the accident. The shuttle bus driver did, in fact, admit to not seeing the bicyclist.

Even though the shuttle bus company tried to defend itself and the shuttle bus driver arguing that it was difficult to see the bicycle rider, in the end the company was not willing to take its chances with a jury verdict. As a result, they have decided to settle the case for $6 million.

Shuttle bus drivers are responsible for ensuring the safety of their passengers, as well as everyone else on the road. Driving a shuttle bus can be a particularly tedious job, especially if the driver is mindlessly driving around in a similar pattern throughout a long day on the job. However, such circumstances can never make it acceptable for a lack of attentiveness on the job. An inattentive drive behind the wheel of a large vehicle can lead to catastrophic results.
