Fatal motorcycle crash leaves Baton Rouge police investigating

The circumstances of a recent fatal accident have police in Baton Rouge wondering just what happened in the moments before the collision occurred.

The investigation began on Monday afternoon when emergency responders were called to the scene of a collision involving a motorcycle and a sports utility vehicle. Through the evidence at the scene, the initial investigation determined that the motorcyclist had attempted to apply his brakes prior to the 12:05 p.m. accident. His attempts to avoid the collision were unsuccessful, sending the cyclist careening into the side of the SUV.

Driver charged with DWI after crash on Louisiana highway

The offense of driving under the influence of alcohol may be called by different names: driving while intoxicated, drunk driving, drinking and driving and impaired driving -- to name a few. Regardless of what you call it, the decision to get behind the wheel of car after consuming alcohol is a reckless decision.

Louisiana State Police Troop A, who investigated the scene of a recent car crash, report that impaired driving apparently left a man with life-threatening injuries on Lousiana 431 east of US 61. Troopers suspect that alcohol contributed to the crash and have charged him with DWI. Even worse, it appears to be the driver's second offense, which may make the chargers even more severe.

Louisiana semi truck accident pinned car against barricade

Semi trucks -- commonly called 18 wheelers or tractor trailers -- are frequent vehicles on Louisiana highways. Semi truck accidents can happen for many reasons, and a recent crash occurred while a semi truck and a car were attempting to merge onto an exit off of the highway.

Earlier this week, the potentially fatal semi truck accident occurred on a highway outside of Baton Rouge. At approximately 9:00 a.m., the car and the semi truck began to merge onto the exit. While the vehicles were merging, the two vehicles collided with one another. The collision caused the car to be trapped between the semi truck and the highway barricade.

Baton Rouge accident victim has 50/50 chance of walking again

"I was fully healthy, riding, running, strong, able" said a young father from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The past tense in his statement resulted from a motor vehicle accident in which he was injured. He remembered pulling himself to the side of the road, unable to feel his legs. The spinal cord injury he suffered that day took away everything he once saw himself as on the morning of April 2.

Now, only a month after the accident occurred, the 46-year-old victim -- and father of two young children -- says his life has forever changed since he woke up in a hospital bed and doctors told him that he was paralyzed. The doctors said that they were able to rebuild his severely damaged spinal cord, but the result of the surgeries was that he had only a 50 percent chance that he would ever be able to walk again.

Motorcyclist dies from car accident while fleeing police

A fatal car accident occurred just outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The car accident occurred when a motorcyclist was driving at high speeds while attempting to flee the police. During the high speed police chase, the motorcyclist rear-ended a SUV after he lost control of his motorcycle.

As a result of the collision, the motorcycle flew 616 feet away from the accident. The motorcyclist died at the accident scene and the driver of the SUV was not injured from the car accident. The reason the motorcyclist was fleeing from the police has not yet been released, but toxicology reports are being analyzed and the car accident is currently under investigation.

Two died in fatal Baton Rouge car accident

A Baton Rouge roadway was once again the scene of a fatal car accident. Unfortunately, car accidents cause some of the most serious injuries and fatalities on Louisiana roads. Car accidents create many scenarios that the injured party or their family must deal with after the accident. One of the primary concerns of the injured party or victim's family is how they are going to get financial compensation to recover from the accident and pay related medical bills.

The fatal Baton Rouge accident occurred earlier this week. A 75-year-old woman was driving on a local highway and had a 76-year-old passenger with her in the car.

One man's drunk driving leads to another's death in Baton Rouge

On Sunday evening a 54-year-old man from Hammond was driving along Louisiana 441 just south of US 190. A 32-year-old woman -- also from Hammond -- was a passenger in the vehicle. At approximately 7 p.m., a pickup truck approached them from behind. All of a sudden, the pickup got too close and the two passengers felt a force strike their car.

That force was the pickup truck rear-ending their vehicle, forcing it off of the road and straight into a tree bordering the pavement. When the car collided with the tree, it turned into a fatal accident, causing the death of the driver and seriously injuring the female passenger.

Some with brain injuries being victimized twice

When someone suffers a head injury in an accident caused by negligence, it causes an extreme amount of pain and can result in permanent brain damage. Some traumatic brain injury victims are unable to ever return to the person that they were prior to the accident. As tax month comes to a close, an investigation uncovered a tax fraud scheme in which the perpetrators targeted those with brain trauma, victimizing them a second time.

Although the investigation focused on New York and New Jersey, this type of victimization happens across all fifty states including Louisiana. The scheme involved identity theft, a man had coerced 56 patients at his place of employment -- the Long Island Head Injury Association -- to share personal information with him. He then used that information to file false tax returns, keeping the ill-gotten gains for himself.

Triple car accident in Louisiana puts one victim in critical care

Car accidents are common occurrences in Louisiana. The severity of the accidents can vary from a minor collision to a fatal wreck. No matter how severe the accident is, families are always affected by it in one way or another. Many times accidents do not result in criminal culpability but can still result in civil liability.

Recently a three car accident occurred in Shreveport, Louisiana. In total, the three cars involved carried 10 people and over half of the people involved in the accident were children. The accident happened at approximately 2:00 p.m. It began when a Tahoe stopped on the roadway and was hit from behind by another vehicle.

Decisions difficult for brain injury victims

Personal injury lawsuits compensate an accident victim for the various damages that they suffer whether mentally, physically, emotionally or financially. When the media reports about a multi-million dollar lawsuit, the focus is often placed on the physically disabling injuries. They are visible, and translate into photos and video. These types of injuries are exactly what they appear to be: serious and life-altering.

Mental injuries are not as easy to show in a photograph, but they can be severely disabling to a person's life. Brain injuries can erase days, years or months worth of memories. According to a recent neurological study, a traumatic brain injury can seriously affect a person's ability to make complex decisions at a time when they are extremely necessary.
